Section 381 - Business Administration

Charter
The Business Administration Section of Division 38 supports our Division Management, Technical Section Management and all Division staff members to ensure the effective and successful execution of business management processes. Each of the Sections' business teams consist of a Business Administration Manager (BAM), one or more administrators and one or more secretaries. The business team works within broadly defined administrative areas with expressed or delegated authority from the Division Manager and Technical Section Manager to achieve, implement and maintain JPL and the Division's policies and procedures. The BAMs are responsible for providing business leadership and for facilitating seamless transactions between the technical line employees and the business services of the Laboratory. The business team tasks include:

  • Provide an effective business management and administrative support team.
  • Prepare Division and Section plans and provide assistance in the areas of workforce, budget and cost controls, facilities, property, security, procurement/acquisitions, human and employee resources and in other business activities.
  • Identify and analyze complex workforce and budgetary issues and recommend strategies for resolution to management. Keep management apprised of administrative achievements, accomplishments, issues and potential problems.
  • Identify, form and lead teams engaged in intra-organizational or cross-organizational problem solving, resource allocation and strategic planning.
  • Assist management in developing policies and procedures and in implementing best business practices based on the use of modern management tools and prior lessons-learned.
  • Participate fully, as a team member or leader, in organizational strategic planning.

Vision
The Business Administration Section is a customer focused organization that will provide friendly, streamlined and excellent administrative support. We will do this by utilizing innovative, effective, cost efficient and current business practices and methods. The Section will support the Division through the use of modern management tools and by retaining a strong commitment to innovation. We will strive at all times to provide unsurpassed service, evaluate effectiveness and to being the model for line business structures at JPL.
